The Importance of In-Kind Donations

Many nonprofit organizations rely on in-kind donations for use in the programs of children, families, veteran and social service programs in need.  By contributing items of need greatly benefit the work of nonprofit organizations in our communities.

How You Can Help

Simply pick up a few extra items next time you are at Target, BJ’s or Stop and Shop. Also consider the power in numbers, a group coming together to organize a collection drive, a Girl or Boy Scout Troop, High School Service Project, or a department within an office or company setting.  Below are a few Long Island nonprofit organizations, local to our work and business that accept in-kind donations. We’ve also listed one particular drive we are coordinating for Mommas House. Contact us if you have something to contribute!

New Ground

New Ground provides support to families and veterans in need. The organization’s goal is to help break the cycle of homelessness. They accept various in-kind donations such as food, household products and hygiene items to help cover the cost of their families’ and Veterans’ budgets, while providing them with the assistance that they may need. Click here to view New Ground’s in-kind donation Wish List, which includes essential items like pasta, shampoo, paper towels and school supplies.

Shoes for All

Most of us have shoes in our closet that we have barely worn or haven’t even worn at all. Why not give them to someone who needs those shoes?

In 2010 Dr. Mary Carlson experienced her first shoe drive at a local street fair. The remarkable community support that she encountered showed that this type of outreach service was something that had to be done.

Shoes for All’s goal is simple “if you don’t want to walk in your shoes, please give them to someone who does.”

To make an in-kind donation to Shoes for All, you can simply drop off a pair of new or lightly used shoes that will be given to someone in need. Click here for more information.
